Chester

Heute war ich in Chester, einer kleinen Stadt - ähnlich groß wie Konstanz - römischen Ursprungs im Nordwesten Englands an der Grenze zu Wales - heutzutage berühmt dafür, dass man dort teure Markenklamotten der letzten Saison für weniger Geld bekommt, was mich persönlich nicht interessierte.
Ich hatte gehört, Chester ist hübsch, also bin ich hin. Ein paar römische Spuren und meine geliebten Fachwerkhäuser gabs zu sehen. Und Chester hat eine nahezu vollkommen intakte Stadtmauer.
Nachdem ich die Stadt besichtigt hatte: den Grosvenor Park, den Fluss River Dee - wo ich mich mit einem Künstler unterhalten habe, die St. Johns Kirche mitsamt Ruine - beeindruckend! - die Eastgate Clock, und die Kathedrale, hab ich noch einen kurzen Blick auf die Town Hall (Rathaus) geworfen, bin ein bisschen durchs verhasste Getümmel - ein sehr belebte Stadt - Shoppingmania - entdeckte ich die Stadtmauer als das beeindruckenste der Stadt.
Sobald einem das Getümmel zu viel wird, kann man über die eine oder andere enge Treppe auf die ruhige Mauer fliehen und man kann - was ich auch getan hab - die ganze Innenstadt auf dieser Mauer entlang laufend umrunden!
Eine andere faszinierende Sache zurück im Einkaufsgetümmel war die Architektur. Es gibt Läden sowohl im Erdgeschoss als auch im ersten Stock. Alle sind aber sehr gut erreichbar, da es parallel zur Straße eine Art durchlaufenden Balkon mit vielen Treppen zur Straße gibt. Die Fußgängerzone hat sozusagen zwei Ebenen.
Für die ganze Stadtbesichtigung habe ich 3 Stunden gebraucht.

Today I've been to Chester, a small town - like Konstanz - with roman roots in the North West of England near the border to Wales. Today famous for outlets. Last seasons brand products for sale - hardly interesting for me.
I heard that Chester is a nice place to visit so I did. Some roman marks here an there and my beloved timbered houses to visit. And Chester has a nearly complete city wall.
After I visited the most famous places in town: Grosvenor Park, River Dee - where I had a chat with a artist - St. Johns Church with ruin - impressive - Eastgate Clock, Chester Cathedral - short look at the Town Hall, than through the hated crowd - a very busy city - shopping mania - I discovered the Town Wall as the most impressive place in town.
As soon as you like to leave the crowd you just need to climb upstairs and than you are on top of the less busy wall. And there you can circle the whole city.
An other fascinating thing back in the shopping crowd is the architecture. There are shops at the ground floor and others in top of them. But you can easily visit all thanks to an endless balcony parallel to the street and many stairs. Means the pedestrian area is likely in two levels.
Visiting all those places toke me 3 hours.

bald nun ist weihnachtszeit...

Das sicherste Zeichen, dass Weihnachten naht, ist in einem Wohnheim die extrem absinkende Anzahl der Mitbewohner:
Also ursprünglich waren wir 12 aus 9 Nationen. Taiwan zog am Montag aus, Ukraine folgte am Mittwoch, heute ging Thailand. Finnland scheint auch weg zu sein, kommt aber nach Weihnachten wieder. Also 8 aus 5 Ländern.
Dafür haben Celina und ihr Freund am Montag Chinesisch aufgetischt zusammen mit Dewia, eine Inderin aus einer anderen Studentenunterkunft kam mit einer pakistischen Freundin und einem pakistanischen Freund vorbei und Indisch kochte. hm - lecker. Hier sollte öfter mal Auszugsaktion sein...
Über Weihnachten selber sind wir vermutlich drei aus 2 Nationen. Eine Deutsche, zwei Chinesinnen. Celina und Sophia bleiben hier. Das wird ein Fest!!! Wir lehren uns jetzt scho n gegenseitig kochen.
In Sub-4 sieht mans auch. Angela hat geschmückt und seit heute läuft son scheußlicher roter Leuchtbanner: Alle Stup-4 Mitarbeiter wünschen Ihnen ein frohes Weihnachten. Dave hats heute eingestellt.
Und draußen wirds immer kälter... brrrrrrrr

The clearest sign that Christmas is coming inside a student hall is, that the hall becomes empty: Originally we were 12 people from 9 Nations. Taiwan left on Monday, Ukraine on Wednesday, Today Thailand. Seems that Finland left as well, but she will come back next year. Means: 8 from 5 Countries.
Due to that, Celina and her boyfriend cooked on Monday, together with Dewia, an Indian girl living in an other university flat, and her Pakistan friends - Chinese and Indian foot. Delicious. There should be more people leaving...
Looks like at Christmas are only 3 people from 2 nations left: a German and two Chinese. Celina ans Sophia will stay. That will be a great party!!! We already teach each other cooking.
In Sub-4 you can see it too. Angela decorated the whole company and since today there is a awful light-banner: "Merry Christmas from all staff at Sub-4"
And Outside it becomes very cold.... brrrrrrrrr
