Ich kuck* auf mein Handy und stelle fest, das Hintergrundbild - ein Kalender - hat sich geändert! Dezember! Und ich hab weder einen Adventskalender - kennt man hier nicht so - noch Adventskerzen - auch die sind hier fremd. Und es ist Samstag. Jetzt aber flott!
Samstag habe ich zeit, meine Wocheneinkäufe zu machen. Diesmal waren Kerzen ein muss. Aber komischerweise gibt es in ganz Stoke fast nur Duftkerzen und kaum vierer-Packungen. Ich hab in "The Potteries" Shopping Center alle Läden, die halbwegs in frage kommen, durchkämmt. Nichts. Erst als ich am Abend dann in Sainsbury's meine gewöhnten Einkäufe für den täglichen Bedarf tätigte, fand ich endlich neutral riechende schlichte preiswerte einzelne Kerzen - Advent kann kommen.
Nebenbei habe ich mit Celine noch unsere Liverpooltour per SMS geplant und jetzt habe ich gerade mein Abendessen á là Anna mit indonesischem Einfluss gegönnt: Reis, Sate Ayam** und Brokkoli in Santan***. Hm - lecker. Nebenbei hab ich noch einen falschen Hasen**** á là Anna in die Röhre geschoben, den ich später in Scheiben schneiden und morgen mit nehmen möchte. Sparen wir uns die Jagt.*****

As I had a look at my mobile display I saw that the background - a calendar - changed! December! And I have no Advent calender* - not that common in UK - whether Advent candles** - also unknown. And today is Saturday. Hurry!
Saturday I have time to do my weekly shopping. This time I must get candles. But strangely it seems that they are only perfumed candles and no 4-sets in whole Stoke. I looked in every store inside The Potteries shopping centre. Nothing. Finally I went to Sainsbury's to get my every day stuff, I get cheep single neutral candles - Advent can arrive.
At the same time I discussed our Liverpool trip tomorrow with Celine via SMS. Now I already enjoyed my dinner á là Anna with Indonesian influence: rice, Sate Ayam*** and broccoli in Santan****. And during the same time I made some German Meat loaf á là Anna to avoid the fight for food in Liverpool tomorrow.*****

Zu den wichtigsten morgendlichen Jobs gehört neben Mülleimer ausleeren das Staubsaugen. Das ist garnicht so einfach, wie man denkt. Sobald das Telefon klingelt, muss ich den Staubsauger ausschalten und wenn ein Kunde den Laden betritt sogar weg räumen. Heute war es mir zum Beispiel überhaupt nicht möglich, den Staubsauger überhaupt heraus zu holen, denn als ich das gerade tun wollte, kam ein Kunde.
Gestern hatte ich den Staubsauger draußen, den Eingangsbereich gesaugt und wollte mich in die hinteren Gebiete vorkämpfen, als ich feststellen musste, dass die Steckleiste, an die ich den Staubsauger anschließen wollte, kein Strom hat. Zuerst kontrollierte ich natürlich, ob sie angeschlossen und richtig eingeschalten ist - hier hat jede Steckdose einen Ein-/Ausschalter - und das war sie. Ich kuckte mich nun nach einer anderen Steckdose auf der gleichen Seite um - auch kein Strom. Ich sah nach, ob der Computer funktionierte, der ebenfalls in dem Bereich stand. Nichts. Eindeutig: die Sicherung ist raus.
Ich informierte Regina, die schaute nach, ob alles angeschlossen ist - was ich ja bereits getan hatte - zeigte mir dann, wo der Sicherungskasten ist und meinte, wenn was ist, soll ich mich an Dave wenden. Das tat ich umgehend. Sicherheitshalber.
Dave kontrollierte ersteinmal, ob alles ordnungsgemäß angeschlossen ist - was ich ja, wie ich ihm sagte, bereits getan hatte. Dann wies ich ihn darauf hin, dass auch die andern Steckdosen auf der Seite Tod sind, es muss also - was auch immer Sicherung auf Englisch heißt, an dieser liegen. Er wollte zum Computer gehen - aber da hab ich ja bereits gekuckt, ob die Steckdosen funktionieren. Dann sah er im Sicherungskasten nach. Stimmt, die Sicherung ist raus.
Aber warum? Zurück zur ersten Steckleiste. Stecker raus gezogen. Der ist Nass - ups. Woran mag das liegen - sag mal Anna, hast du den Wischmob da hingetan? - Natürlich, er gehört doch dahin...
Ursache gefunden, Fehler behoben. Regina konnte es erst nicht glauben - wie, Anna solls gewesen sein? Wer hat dir gesagt, dass der Mob dahin gehört, ich denke, der gehört ins Labor - Nee, da steht der andere. Wir ham zwei. Der im Labor ist zu schmutzig für die Kochnische.
Danke für die Hilfe Dave. - Nicht doch - danke dir, du machst den Job aufregender...
Und schon war der erste Kunde da.

One of the most important jobs in the morning besides empty the bins are hoovering. That's fare as simple as it's sounds like. As soon as there is a call I have to switch the hoover off and if a client enters the shop I have to put the hoover away. Today it was impossible to get the hoover out. In the same moment I trying to do so, a costumer entered Sub-4.
Yesterday it was possible. I get the hoover and I hoovered the whole entrance area and was just about to continue with areas in the back as I realised that the power sockets didn't worked. Of cause I checked whether all the power sockets where switched on - here every power socket has it's own switcher - and they where on. I looked for the other plugs at the same area - no power at all. I checked whether the computer in this area was working - Not at all. Alright - the fuse. I told Regina. She looked after the plugs - as I already did - and showed me the fuse box and told me if need any help I shall ask Dave. I did so immediately - as a precaution.
At first, Dave checked whether all the plugs were plugged in and the power sockets were switched on - as I did already as I told him. Then I told him, that all power sockets in this area were death, so it must be a matter of the - what ever Sicherung means in English - He was about checking the computer as well - but I looked for it already. Than he went to the fuse box. Alright, it's the fuse.
But why? back to the power socket. Unplugged the plug.It's wet - Oops! How comes - Anna, did you put the mob there? - Yes, of cause, it belongs there...
Reason founded and eliminated. Regina couldn't believe - it was Anna's fault??? Who told you to put the mob there? I thought it belongs in the lab? - No, there is an other one. We have two. That one in the lab is too dirty for the kitchen area.

And the first customer arrived.

has been a while....
Ja, ich weiß, ich hab schon erschreckend lange nichts mehr geschrieben - mir gehts also gut. Meine Erkältung ist fast weg und mein Fuß tut auch nicht mehr weh - warum er auch immer weh getan hat....
Praktikum macht immernoch Spaß und ist immernoch sehr vielfältig. Diese Woche ist Rob nicht da und somit muss ich mir mit Andy seinen Job teilen. Außerdem haben Regina und Clifton immer irgendwas für mich zu tun - Clifton plant eine Art "sub-4 user Manual" - wo man dann im Fall des Falles nachlesen kann, wie man den Laden am laufen hält. Und hin und wieder kommen dann noch Dave und Angelina mit der Bitte, ein paar Sohlenteile zu zuschneiden und mit einem Logo zu versehen - ich mach übrigens die besten goldenen Sub-4 logos
Und hier in Spode Hall ist auch nicht viel los - überraschender weise haben meine Mitbewohnerinnen jetzt gelernt, dass man im Bad und in der Küche das Licht ausschalten kann - ist ja auch garnicht so leicht, geb ich ja zu, Zumal zum Beispiel auf dem Flur überhaupt kein Lichtschalter ist, da brennen die Lampen immer...
Ich war am Sonntag extra in der Kirche, weil doch jetzt das Kirchenjahr zu Ende geht, und ich doch mal wissen wollte, ob die Briten das auch merken - offensichtlich nicht. Weihnachtsmärkte und - Beleuchtung brennt schon seit Wochen und auch sonst hat sich nichts besonderes am Wochenende ereignet. Hier gibt es mitten im November bereits einen Gedenktag für die Kriegsopfer - ursprünglich des ersten Weltkrieges -da werden bereits überall Kränze mit falschem roten Mohn hingelegt, und die liegen ja immernoch, also wozu neue hinlegen?

Yes, I know - it's a while ago that I published the last post - means I'm fine. my cold is almost gone and my food doesn't hurt anymore - still don't know why....
I still enjoy my placement very much and it is still manifold. This week Rob isn't in at all, so Andy and I divided his job. Besides there are many tasks Regina and Clifton wants me to do - Clifton is planing a "sub-4 user manual" - so if something is happen you can find in there, how to run the company. And from time to time Angelina and Dave ask me to cut some materials and stamping logos on there - by the way, I'm doing the best golden Sub-4 logos.
Here in Spode Hall goes everything it's normal way. Surprisingly my flatmates learned how to switch the light in the Bathroom and kitchen off - Oh yes, it isn't that easy - as example, the floor do not have a light switch at all, so the light is on at day and night...
On Sunday I've been to the church to find out whether the British realise that the church year is ending this week - but obviously not at all. Chrismas markets take place and Chrismas light is already on for weeks and there was also nothing else special at the weekend. Here their have a Memorise day for the victims of the - originally first world - war. At this day they already laid wreath down, made from red muck poppy - so why shall they lay some new down?
