Nichts.
***Santan - Kokosmilch
****falscher Hase - Hackbraten

As I had a look at my mobile display I saw that the background - a calendar - changed! December! And I have no Advent calender* - not that common in UK - whether Advent candles** - also unknown. And today is Saturday. Hurry!
Saturday I have time to do my weekly shopping. This time I must get candles. But strangely it seems that they are only perfumed candles and no 4-sets in whole Stoke. I looked in every store inside The Potteries shopping centre. Nothing. Finally I went to Sainsbury's to get my every day stuff, I get cheep single neutral candles - Advent can arrive.
At the same time I discussed our Liverpool trip tomorrow with Celine via SMS. Now I already enjoyed my dinner á là Anna with Indonesian influence: rice, Sate Ayam*** and broccoli in Santan****. And during the same time I made some German Meat loaf á là Anna to avoid the fight for food in Liverpool tomorrow.*****
* Advent calendar - a calender with 24 doors to open from the 1st till 24th December. behind them are pictures, chocolate or little presents
** Advent candles - 4 candles to light one more every Sunday during the 4 weeks before Chrismas
*** Sate Ayam - Indonesian chicken sticks with peanut dip
**** Santan - coconut milk

exciting
Ursache gefunden, Fehler behoben.

One of the most important jobs in the morning besides empty the bins are hoovering. That's fare as simple as it's sounds like. As soon as there is a call I have to switch the hoover off and if a client enters the shop I have to put the hoover away. Today it was impossible to get the hoover out. In the same moment I trying to do so, a costumer entered Sub-4.
Yesterday it was possible. I get the hoover and I hoovered the whole entrance area and was just about to continue with areas in the back as I realised that the power sockets didn't worked. Of cause I checked whether all the power sockets where switched on - here every power socket has it's own switcher - and they where on. I looked for the other plugs at the same area - no power at all. I checked whether the computer in this area was working - Not at all. Alright - the fuse. I told Regina. She looked after the plugs - as I already did - and showed me the fuse box and told me if need any help I shall ask Dave. I did so immediately - as a precaution.
At first, Dave checked whether all the plugs were plugged in and the power sockets were switched on - as I did already as I told him. Then I told him, that all power sockets in this area were death, so it must be a matter of the - what ever Sicherung means in English - He was about checking the computer as well - but I looked for it already. Than he went to the fuse box. Alright, it's the fuse.
But why? back to the power socket. Unplugged the plug.It's wet - Oops! How comes - Anna, did you put the mob there? - Yes, of cause, it belongs there...
Reason founded and eliminated. Regina couldn't believe - it was Anna's fault??? Who told you to put the mob there? I thought it belongs in the lab? - No, there is an other one. We have two. That one in the lab is too dirty for the kitchen area.
Thanks for your help Dave. - Not at all. Thank you, you make the job more exciting...

has been a while....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, I know - it's a while ago that I published the last post - means I'm fine. my cold is almost gone and my food doesn't hurt anymore - still don't know why....
I still enjoy my placement very much and it is still manifold. This week Rob isn't in at all, so Andy and I divided his job. Besides there are many tasks Regina and Clifton wants me to do - Clifton is planing a "sub-4 user manual" - so if something is happen you can find in there, how to run the company. And from time to time Angelina and Dave ask me to cut some materials and stamping logos on there - by the way, I'm doing the best golden Sub-4 logos.
Here in Spode Hall goes everything it's normal way. Surprisingly my flatmates learned how to switch the light in the Bathroom and kitchen off - Oh yes, it isn't that easy - as example, the floor do not have a light switch at all, so the light is on at day and night...
On Sunday I've been to the church to find out whether the British realise that the church year is ending this week - but obviously not at all. Chrismas markets take place and Chrismas light is already on for weeks and there was also nothing else special at the weekend. Here their have a Memorise day for the victims of the - originally first world - war. At this day they already laid wreath down, made from red muck poppy - so why shall they lay some new down?
Sub-4 - "May I borrow Anna for a while?"
Drei Tage arbeite ich nun schon, langsam ist es an der Zeit mal zu erzählen, wo überhaupt. Also Sub-4 wurde von einem Fußspezialisten und in den 80er Jahren auf internationaler Bühne berühmten Läufer, der in meinem Geburtsjahr irgendeinen UK (indoor mile) Rekord gebrochen hatte (Clifton Bradeley), gegründet.
Er arbeitet mit seinem Bruder Steve und seinem Cousin Andy, mein Chef, zusammen. Andy hab ich bisher nur zu meinem Bewerbungsgespräch und an meinem ersten Tag gesehen.
Eigentlich werde ich damit beschäftigt, Regina, Rob und Dave zu helfen. Regina macht die Rezeption und Verwaltung und ist Deutsche, spricht aber nur in ganz absolut großen Ausnahmen Deutsch mit mir. Sonst korrigiert sie mein Englisch und beschäftigt mich mit Aufgaben wie Telefon beantworten, Akten suchen und sortieren, Briefe adressieren, Tee kochen... und all den Sachen, die Clifton ihr noch so für mich gibt. Was Regina mir gibt, hat oberste Priorität.
Dann folgt Rob. Rob ist noch recht jung und bedient und berät die Kunden und analysiert die Füße. Es gibt zwei Arten von Kunden: Privatkunden und Orthopäden, die Sohlen für ihre Kunden fertigen lassen. Rob erklärte mir, ich bin hauptsächlich da, um ihm ein Großteil seiner Arbeit abzunehmen: Telefon, Tee kochen, Staubsagen, Website aktualisieren, Kunden bedienen, Sohlen verpacken, Kunden anrufen, dass ihre Sohlen fertig sind....
Und schließlich gibts noch Dave. Dave und Angelica stellen die Sohlen nach Robs und Cliftons Anweisungen her. Bisher bestand unsere Zusammenarbeit darin, dass Dave mir das Lab gezeigt hat und wir unsere Mittagspausen gemeinsam abhalten. Später darf ich dann mal Teile für die Sohlen zurecht schneiden etc.
Die orthopädischen Einlagesohlen sind für jederman und dienen dazu, kleinste Fußfehlstellungen zu korrigieren, um zum Beispiel Rückenschmerzen und andere Folgen zu vermeiden bzw. zu beseitigen.
Alle zusammen sind ein sehr nettes, humorvolles Team und wie Clifton mir heute erzählte, sind alle sehr zufrieden mit mir - während ich mich ärger, dass ich mich wegen meiner Erkältung nur schlecht konzentrieren kann und viele Fehler mache.
Wie auch immer: Hin und wieder klingt es, als sei "Anna" eine art Arbeitsgerät - "brauchst du Anna grad, oder kann ich sie mir mal kurz ausleihen?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I already work for three days - almost time to tell where. Sub-4 was founded by a Podiatrist and in the 80th world wide a famous runner, having broken the U.K. indoor mile record in the year of my birth (Clifton Bradeley).
He works together with his Brother Steve and his cousin Andy - my boss. I haven't seen Andy that much until know, only during my interview and my first working day.
In fact, Regina, Rob and Dave keep me busy assisting them. Regina does the reception and accounting and is German, but there must be a very big need to otherwise she would never speak any German at all. In fact, she corrects my English all the time and keep me busy with task like answering the phone, looking for files and sorting them, addressing letters, making tea... and additional all those things Clifton give to her for me as well. Everything Regine gives me has priority.
Followed by Rob. Rob is still quite young and his job is to serve and advise the customer and to analyse their feet. There are two kinds of customers: privates and professionals, who order the orthoses for their clients. Rob told me, My main job is to help him with the most of tasks: answering the Phone, making tea, hoovering, keeping the website up to date, serving customers, packing the orthoses and insoles, calling customers to tell them, that their orthoses are ready to be picked up...
And at last there is Dave. Dave and Anglica manufacture the orthoses according to Robs and Cliftons orders. Up to now our teamwork only includes showing me around the lab and eat the lunch together. Some day I may cut some material they need for the orthoses etc.
Orthoses are insoles for everyone, made to correct little position mistakes of the feet - to avoid or correct pain in the back, knees or other results.
All together are a very kind and humorous team and like Clifton told me today, all of them are very satisfied with me - while due to my cold my concentration is low and I do a lot of mistakes, what annoys me.
However, sometimes it sounds like "Anna" is a kind of tool - "do you need Anna at the moment, or may I borrow her for a while?"

British Buses I Bus map

Yesterday was my first day. To avoid being late I left home a hour before, toke a look at the bus map to realise that I'd done a mistake - the bus pass Stoke City but not the university. So I had to change in Hanley.
According to the bus map, the buses 21 and 34 are going to Festival Park - the map doesn't show every bus stop. The same for all bus timetables - but the bus drivers don't care about them at all - and if you are lucky you can find a at the not shown bus stops a sign with a note that the buses goes every 20 minutes - but this is of cause just an average....
So I toke the 21. After the bus lefts the Festival Park (industrial area in the southwest of Hanley) in the north direction, I realised that the 21 won't go over the south Festival Park - that's why I left the bus asap.
Thanks to I never saw any map of this area I followed the compass inside my head. It tolds me that my target should be situated in the south-south-east - and that was right! (like almost every time). But unfortunately I was a bit too late. And as if that wasn't enough, my nose kept running and I get some bad coughing fits thanks to my cold and the very dry and dusty air in the company rooms.
The way back home tokes me 45 minutes on foot - following my head - and my inward compass don't know any dead end what tokes me quite a couple of minutes.
Today I toke the bus again (this time no. 34) and it tokes me 40 minutes.

British Buses II Bus ticket
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Likewise horrible is the bus ticket system.
There are many possibileties: I can get a Student Ticket, 10 Journeys, GBP 10.00. Means a piece of carton, needs to be ounched by the driver if I enter the bus - but there arn't many places to buy them....
Standart price 1.50 per journey - means per bus.
So, when ever you change the bus, you have to pay again...
Day ticket: 3.70 - after 9.00 am - but I have to be at Festival Park at 9.00, so I have to pay 4.20 - but do I know wether anybody is able to give me a lift later in the afternoon???
Manchester
Nachdem ich gestern in Manchester war, war heute mal Ruhetag. Also genug Zeit, an meinem Blog weiterzuschreiben.
Zwei der Franzosen aus unserm Kurs am Anfang - Celine und Oliver - wohnen jetzt in Manchester. Mit denen hatte ich mich verabredet. Beide sprachen wegen meiner Anwesenheit fast nur Englisch und Oliver (Bitte französische Aussprache : Olivieeee, Danke) betätigte sich als unser Guide. Ersteinmal führte er uns durch das Chinesische Viertel - Juhu, eine Chinesisches Viertel!! - zu einem Platz, wo er in die Bank verschwand, ich Celine einen billigen Klamottenladen zeigte (Primark) und wir dann aber uns in ein Starbucks Café setzten. Celine erklärte mir, dass Oliver (OliviEEE) dort fast jeden Tag Kaffee trank. In Frankreich gibts anscheinend keine Starbucks Cafés. Tja, in Deutschland gibts welche, aber darum muss ich nicht jeden Tag dort hin.
Als Oliver (OliviEEE) zurück kam, sein Kaffee getrunken hatte und mich fragte, wo ich hin will, ich bin der Boss - mir egal, was gibst denn zu sehen? - , führte er uns ins riesige Shoppingcenter - Juhu, ein Shoppingcenter!!! und dann auf der Suche nach Mittag weiter durch die Stadt.
Das erweist sich allerdings als sehr schwierig. Erstens sind die Preise sehr hoch, und zweitens wollen offensichtlich alle 50 Mio Briten genau um diese Zeit in Machnester Essen. Es ist alles überfüllt. Sogar der riesen Fastfoodtempel mit 800 Plätzen. Trotzdem entscheiden wir uns für diesen, weil es Preislich noch verhältnismäßig erträglich ist. Also ersteinmal nach Essen anstellen, dann mit Tablet rumirren und einen freien Tisch erkämpfen - leider sind die geübten Briten meistens schneller - dann zu dem Tisch noch 3 Stühle erprügeln, und los gehts. Mist, Pizza, Burger und Co sind schon kalt.
Nach der Schlacht besichtigten wir das Gebiet weiter. Weihnachtsmarkt, Rathaus, Bibliothek, Kathedrale - und diesmal hab ich mein "Fotoapparat"wie Celine sagte - ohnein, die Franzosen können besser deutsch als ich Französisch!! - nicht vergessen!
(chinesisches Viertel, Rathaus und Weihnachtsmarkt, Riesenrad vorm Shoppingcenter)
Schließlich verabschiedete sich Oliver (OliviEEE) und Celine und ich bummelten noch ein bisschen durch die dunkel gewordene Stadt.
Gegen 7 p.m. trat ich dann den Rückweg an.
Good Night
After i have been to Manchester yesterday, today I'm doing a rest. Time enough to continue my blog.
Two French of the course at the beginning - Celine and Oliver - are living in Manchester now and we arranged to meet. Both spoke English almost all the time we were together an Oliver (French pronunciation please: Olivieeee, Thanks) was our guide. First of all he leaded us through the Chinese quarter - Great, a Chinese quarter!! - to a place where he went to a bank. I showed Celine a very cheap clothing shop (Primark) and then we sat down in a Starbucks Café. Celine explained to me that Oliver (OliviEEE) drinks his coffee there almost every day. Seems that the French don't have Starbuck Café. In Germany we do have them, but no reason for me to go there every day.
After Oliver (OliviEEE) has been back, finished his coffee and asked me, where I would like to go - I am the Boss, but I don't know, what do I have to visit? - He guided us to a huge shopping centre - great, a shopping centre!!! and after that we were looking for lunch.
That wasn't easy at all. First at all, it's very expensive, furthermore obviously all 50m British are looking for lunch in Manchester at the same time.Everything was very busy. Even the biggest fast food chain with 800 seats. Anyway, we decided to go there because the prices are more or less affordable. Means at first: queue up please. Then: take your tablet and search for a table - fight for it - anyway, the trained British are faster - than fight for 3 chairs, and here you go! Sh*t, Pizza, Burger etc. is cold already.
After the battle we continued exploring the area. Chrismas market, Town hall, Library, Cathedral - and this time with "Fotoapparat" (camera) (- like Celine said - oh no, those French know more German than I know French!!) I didn't forgot!
Finally Oliver (OliviEEE) leaved us and Celine and I dilly-dallied through the now dark city. Around 7pm I went back to Stoke.
Good Night.
